What a magnificent month of May! From announcing the Orwell Prize finalists ahead of June’s winner ceremony to a re-enactment of the Dunkirk channel crossing we’ve certainly been having an interesting time at Collective Wisdom. Read on to see how each project came together and the impressive results our talented team achieved.

This month The Orwell Foundation announced the finalists for the Orwell Prize for Political Writing and the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction. This year’s extraordinary lineup comprises 16 books total – 8 in each category – featuring renowned authors including Robert Harris, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Mishal Husain and Elif Shafak. The announcement was covered in The Irish Times, The Bookseller and BookBrunch. The winners of these prizes, which celebrate works that meet George Orwell’s vision of making ‘political writing into an art’, will be announced on 25th June at Conway Hall, London. See the full list of finalists here.

Our client Joshua Levine has had a busy month. As the historical consultant on the film Dunkirk, he was invited to experience the channel crossing on one of the original boats, New Britannic, as part of the Ramsgate Little Ships Festival. He was interviewed on BBC outlets across the South East about the experience. A ten-hour channel crossing on an open boat was followed by the journey from London to Hay-on-Wye, where Joshua discussed the experience of being a historical consultant on films with Hallie Rubenhold and David Olusoga. The event was reported in the Daily Telegraph and The Times.

Congratulations are due to Jaipur Literature Festival co-founder, Namita Gokhale, whose subversive debut novel Paro has been reissued in the UK 41 years after it was first published. Namita spoke about the book at JLF London at the British Library.
