The launch of the Child Friendly Creative City programme aimed at children and young adults in Nottingham
In 2025, ChalleNGe Nottingham launched the Child Friendly Creative City programme – a bold, three-year initiative designed to break down barriers and open up access to creativity and culture for children and young people aged 0–24 across Nottingham. Headed by a collaboration with 22 of the city’s leading arts, educational and cross-sector community organisations, the programme brings together expertise spanning the Education, SEND, Mental Health, Environment, Early intervention, Community development and Arts and Creativity sectors.
Backed by a £1.5m investment, including £550,000 from Arts Council England via The National Lottery, the programme supports Nottingham’s bid to become a globally recognised UNICEF Child Friendly City.
The programme was launched at Nottingham’s very own Primary Parliament, which consists of up to 60 children gathering in the Nottingham Council House to exlpore the issues that affect them in a fun and engaging manner.
The team supported the launch with a tailored media strategy that navigated a tight timeframe. We developed a stakeholder pack for each of the individual partners to ensure maximum overall reach on social media platforms. We managed to secure on the day coverage from Notts TV who attended the launch and assisted by a team member, this featured interviews with the ChalleNGe Manager, partners in the programme and the local children. The national culture sector was reached with a comprehensive article in Arts Professional.
